If you want to, one can just follow the Sydney social calendar and your Fridays can be filled with free entertainment and cultural experience. For the past 3 weeks, we’ve been spending our Friday nights at the “Overflow” in the Sydney Olympic Park for the yearly Music by Moonlight Concert. We’ve missed the first 2 concerts at the beginning of the month which featured Kate Cerebrano and her Jazz Band on the first week, followed by “From Broadway to the West End” music on the second week.
We caught the African World Music and “It’s Only Rock n Roll” music of the Rolling Stones on following two weeks. Tonight, the finale of the concert series, was the famous – Sydney Symphony Orchestra. Here’s an excerpt from the concert.

I’ve never seen the Sydney Symphony at their usual habitat at the Opera House (the most photograph icon of Sydney). One day I will. We’ve seen them perform for the Olympic Opening Ceremony in 2000. Then on a concert at the Telstra Arena where they played the 1812 Overture using real canons (you’ll never hear this played with such realism, not even in the most expensive hi-fi system). A couple of times now at the Overflow – but I’m sure it would be nice to hear them where there are no Qantas Flight overhead that seem to fly over at the most inappropriate time – when your listening to a sweet cadenza on the oboe :-)The atmosphere at these moonlight concerts are really homey – we spread blankets on the grass, and sit in our folded chairs that is now permanently packed in the boot. Sometimes we bring some snacks / drinks but it’s always easy to get a quick bite at the local chinese/thai shop before heading to the park. We will miss the concert series until it returns again next year. Meanwhile, our next project is to look for events in March.

Hi Rommel,
Nice site here. Really interesting. I wish I could enjoy a play or a concert at the Opera House someday. My sister and her family is in Perth but I haven’t had the chance to visit OZ due to my scholarship grant terms. Anyway, I’m a music enthusiast as well. I do vocals and choral singing. I know it wouldn’t be impossible to see your place in the future. But for now, I would have to enjoy reading articles such as this. Nice read.
Looking forward to meet you in the future then. Meanwhile keep on blogging and developing. Computing is a fascinating field, we’ve only just began.
