Buenos Aires to Iguazu, Argentina

We packed our bags after the Tango show before going to sleep. I tossed and turned and have not really had any sleep. Then it was time to head to Buenos Aires Domestic Airport and fly to the border of Argentina and Brazil called Peurto Iguazu. It’s over 1000 km in-land of Argentina.

After checking in at the Jardin de Iguazu Hotel, Jeanne and I had broken away from the group. Most have headed to the nearby sandwich shop but we’re both craving for something other than meat. We wandered into town and found “Il Fratello”, an Italian restaurant. We tried the local fresh-water fish – the Surubi. We heard the guide (Fabiano) talk about it on the trip from the airport. Jeanne liked it and declared it as the first meal that she liked since the start of the trip.

The town reminds us of Baguio – perhaps on its outskirts where’ igorots’ would be selling their wares. Though not apparent to the photos I’ve posted. :-). Unlike Buenos Aires, you feel at bit at ease walking around. There is a mixture of tourists, natives, Argentinians, and Brazilians. I saw a bus sign that says Paraguay and Chile, which give a sense that this is a melting area of a number of South American countries.

When we headed back to the hotel, we were offered a drink called ‘Caipirinia’ (although it should be spelt with an ‘n’ with a ~ on top – called enye, instead of ‘nia’). It has a lime like fruit with a bit of clear liquor at the bottom of the cocktail. When you sip it, it’s as refreshing until you dunk the rest and the alcohol kicks in. I realised, the rest of the tour group had one as well, some more than one. It set the tone for the evening when we went to a local ‘parilla’ to have dinner.

Others have sampled the ‘Surubi’ after Jeanne started raving about it. However, the restaurant – so pleased of having 12 on a table, gave us another round of capirinia. We were loud and had great fun – or at least I was.
